Classic Baked Tofu

  • firm tofu
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon agave
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • dried herbs and no-sodium seasonings of choice

Step 1: Preheat oven to 400 degrees if cooking immediately (see below). Slice tofu into 1-inch thick slabs. (Press the tofu before slicing if you so desire; I didn’t and they still turned out fine.) Use two of these slabs for this recipe.

Step 2: Combine balsamic vinegar and agave. Add soy sauce little by little, tasting for desired level of saltiness. Add herbs and other no-sodium seasonings.

Step 3: Coat tofu in the sauce. (Let marinate for 30 minutes if you have the time.) Place tofu on a greased foil-covered baking sheet.

Step 4: Bake for 20 minutes, flipping midway through. Tofu should come out golden brown and caramelized.
