Some Like It Frozen

Some like it BURNT

Some like it HOT

Some like it LUKEWARM

Some like it COLD

Anddd some like it FROZEN.

That’s me!

In fact, I love it frozen. Today was a prime example of my love for these icy treats.

Post morning workout, I had a Green Titanic, which as you know is frozen.

For breakfast I had overnight oats, All-American style. I used frozen strawberries–slightly thawed only to make them easier to slice.

Lunch was a triple-play dipping platter. I wish I could say that bread was frozen Ezekiel, but alas they are just slices of my usual multigrain bread from Costco.

Clockwise from top: jalapeño hummus, spinach-artichoke hummus, smashed avocado. Topped with dried herbs and nutritional yeast.

The bananas were ripening faster than we could eat them…

…so as punishment, they were chopped up and sent to the freezer for future consumption. Muahah 😀 I know I’m cruel and selfish, but this girl can’t live without her bininis, aka frozen bananas. No innuendos intended.

Neither can she live without frozen papayas, her new favorite snacklet.

I was on a roll, so I decided to try my hand at some frozen yogurt (agave, almond butter, cinnamon, pinch of sea salt, unsweetened coconut, cacao nibs). I was trying to mimic peanut butter chocolate chip cookie dough.

Looks okay, tastes disgusting. It had an unpleasant sour taste, some parts very salty due to large chunks of sea salt (my fault). Major fail. Greek yogurt and a crappy sea salt grinder do not produce good fro-yo, folks. It was edible though, so I guilted myself into eating it.

By dinner, I had not yet recovered from my atrocious frozen food flop. I comforted myself with a medley of roasted veggies and a steamed sweet corn-on-the-cob.

Clockwise: green beans, eggplant, onion, tomato. Laced with sprinkles of dried herbs and nooch for added protein.

The green beans, eggplant, and tomato were all from our backyard garden.

I’ll admit that veggies are the one thing I prefer fresh over frozen. 🙂

After dinner, I headed out to catch a movie with a couple girlfriends. Nothing frozen here, but “Inception” did leave me with chills. 😀

Questions: Do you like your fruit frozen? I have the habit of popping all kinds of fruit into the freezer. It takes longer to eat it and thus makes the experience more fun. 😀 (One thing I would not recommend freezing is kiwis with their skin still on… *cough*) Have you ever made frozen yogurt without a machine? Today was my first time and it was totally on a whim, so I prepared myself for the worst. The worst did come. What’s your staple bread? I always buy the Eli Zabar health bread from Costco for convenience and price, but I would love to try the much-hyped Ezekiel 4:9. Speaking of hype, have you watched “Inception”? Some of us were a bit late watching it for the first time today. I don’t mind it though. Watching movies a few weeks after its premiere usually means an emptier and quieter audience at the theatre. 🙂

  1. i *love* my fruit frozen. Sometimes when I freeze bananas, I’ll pre-cut them into little discs and pop one into my mouth every so often for a quick frozen treat. I also pre-chop my strawberries before freezing them so that I can easily throw them into overnight oats (they defrost in the fridge overnight), or in my cereal/hot oatmeal just before I eat it. I also love using frozen blueberries/grapes as “ice cubes” for drinks. :):)

Aaaaaaad, I LOVE LOVE Ezekiel 4:9 bread, and their english muffins, and their wraps!

That’s too bad about the yogurt…. I can see what you’re saying though with it being sour…. I wonder if next time you used more banana than yogurt for extra sugar to counter the tartness that might help make a difference?

  2. I’m not a huge fan of frozen. I don’t like extremely cold or extremely hot foods, except ice water. I just froze some bananas and didn’t realize that you should peel them first! That made for a mess.

I love cooked tomatoes, that’s my favorite from all your photos!

I did see Inception. I rarely to go the movies, but a while ago it was a hot day and my a/c wasn’t working, so I had to get out of the house. It was crowded and there was a crying baby in the theater. (see why I don’t go to the movies?) I liked it and found it fascinating, especially because I have such crazy dreams, but later my friends kept talking about plot holes. I was just loving Joseph Gordon-Levitt in a tight suit.

I’m not the hugest fan of eating straight frozen fruit, but I am alone in that opinion in this house. The other 4 go through it like crazy. They really like freezing grapes. My oldest son actually likes eating frozen vegetables out of the freezer, which totally freaks me out, but I don’t tell him that. I like putting cookies in the freezer and eating them frozen. 🙂 I have not seen Inception. It doesn’t seem like my kind of movie, but I told my husband I’d go watch it with him because I’m very intrigued by all the hype. Did you like it?

Yes, I liked it a lot!! For some reason, this past year I’ve consistently fallen asleep in theatres, regardless of whether the movie is low-brow or high-brow–I fell asleep during Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Transformers, AND Avatar (I had to watch that a second time on the computer). I didn’t fall asleep during this one though. I think it’s because the movie involves a lot of “mind games” sort of thing, which kept me wide awake.
